Lynea crown moldings are easy to order and even easier to install. In order to get started, you need to determine:
- Height of your ceiling
- Length of each wall
- Mitering or not mitering?
- Number and types of corners
- Relay blocks
Height of your ceiling
You want crown molding that is appropriate for the size of your room and ceiling height.
If you have a smaller room or lower ceiling (8 feet or lower) consider purchasing one of our 4" moldings.
Medium sized rooms or standard height ceilings (8 to 10 feet) should be adorned with our 6" moldings.
Anything larger or higher should require the use of our 8" moldings.
Length of each wall
Measure the length of each wall in the room that you want to apply crown to. Each piece of Lynea molding is 96" (8 feet) in length.
This will help you determine how many pieces you need to order. You will want to use as few pieces per length of wall as possible.
For instance, if you have a 100" section of wall, instead of using one 96" piece and two 2" pieces; instead, you should use two pieces and cut each one down to 50" to keep it symmetrical.
Mitering or not mitering?
The major benefit of using Lynea crown molding is to utilize our pattern match corner and relay blocks. This rids you of the mitering and joint butting headache.
If you decide to take the hard way, just order the appropriate lengths of molding to accommodate the size of your room.
If you are interested in saving time and labor, you need to figure out how many matching corners and relay blocks you will need.
Number and types of corners
You don't want the headache of mitering? Then you will need one block for each corner. There are two types of corners: inside and outside.
If you are standing at the center of a square room, each corner you see is an inside corner.
If there are corners that stick out of the wall, this is an outside corner.
Make sure you order the appropriate number of corners that are of the same pattern and size and your moldings! (Not all moldings have matching corners).
Relay blocks
Avoid the hassle of having to perfectly match up patterns and cut to ultra tight tolerances.
A relay block replaces any seams between two pieces of molding. Grab one for each time a molding runs up to another molding. This makes it easy to measure, cut, and install every piece.
Lynea relay blocks are available in sizes that match your crown.
